***The pictures show the Faber Tone Lock tailpiece studs and spacers installed on the tailpiece…I removed those and re-installed the original aged chrome tailpiece studs…so the Faber Tone Lock studs will NOT come with the guitar. They are not needed anyway…the Sykes has numerous sustain. The Sykes is now back to original.
HERE IT IS!…the REAL DEAL!…a Gibson John Sykes VOS from 2006!…if you have searched for one of these for years…get it while you can!…she’s a beauty : )
Rob here…this listing is for my 2006 John Sykes Les Paul Custom VOS serial JS one zero five. This is the REAL deal…not a custom someone made up to look like a John Sykes LP. There were only about one hundred of these Sykes VOS guitars built…starting with JS a hundred and one….this one is JS one zero five….so one of the first 5. These were built to 1978 LP specifications for the most part like John’s guitar. So this one does have an ebony board and a maple neck.
Honestly, not sure I want to sell…but I need some $$$ at the moment. I bought this one from Art…I hounded him until he gave in! He told me this was one of the first produced and the frets were hand pressed and whatnot before they ramped up production on the limited number of Sykes VOS guitars…is it true?..who knows. This one does come with John’s actual signature on the Sykes Inspired By brochure. Everything appears to be here….check the %…what you see is what you get. I did add aged Faber Tone Lock tailpiece studs (originals will be included) and spacers because I like the tailpiece touching the body but I don’t like to screw the tailpiece all the way down because I feel it puts too tons downward pull on the backside of the bridge…just a personal opinion. The Sykes is currently strung with GHS Boomers 10-46.
How does she sound?…AWESOME. Notes ring out, tons of sustain and she plays great. Of course, you are going to look silly playing anything but Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy and Blue Murder : )
There isn’t anything to really mention as far as condition…she is a VOS and has continued to age over the last eleven or so years. There is some light play wear and marks…the finish has some of those little crazing cracks and whatnot…again…VOS and light playing…doing what she supposed to do and will continue to do as she ages. There are some small marks on either side of the headstock from hanging. I prefer the VOS to the heavily aged Sykes..that’s just over the top…it took john almost 30 years at that point to get her to that condition. Here’s one you can age yourself as you play her.
I guess that’s about it…cool guitar…I’ll probably regret selling…these don’t come up for sale often and to find one in this condition after almost 12 years could be even more rare. I could only put up 12 %…if you want a %of something specific, please let me know. I may pull this auction at anytime if I change my mind. I will be shipping Fedex Ground Insured in the continental United States with signature required. If you have a question, please ask before clicking on the buy it now. The Sykes is also for sale at another site as well as locally…I may end this listing at anytime. In the event that two people click on the buy it now at different sites, the guitar will be sold to the first person to click on the buy it now.
Regards : )
